Bedingungssätze (engl. conditional clauses) können einem Hauptsatz vorangestellt sein oder ihm folgen. Sie können verschiedene Grade der Wahrscheinlichkeit oder Gewissheit bezeichnen. Dies wird durch verschiedene Zeiten zum Ausdruck gebracht.
